Spanish Revival dream house
I recently saw the Nancy Meyers movie Home Again, which came out last Friday. I've been waiting for it for months because it has my two favorite things: Nancy Meyers sets and REESE WITHERSPOON. Needless to say, it was a cute romcom with some handsome heartthrobs and a dream house. And set in Southern California, it was of course, a Spanish Revival dream house. One day I might have one of these, but in the meantime, I'm saving up all my inspiration photos on Pinterest.
What makes this room for me: the natural linen, the pink and orange kilim pillows, the wrought iron curtain rods, the raw steel window frames, the terra cotta floors, the plaster walls, and the unfinished rattan and wood materials. Did I just list everything? Well then, yes, everything makes the room for me. It all just feels so cozy and warm and loved.
What makes this room for me: THE ORANGE, PINK, AND RED STRIPED BLANKET HEADBOARD. Obviously. The whitewashed dresser with the little tiny keyholes is pretty great too. It's just a little bit sweet, and yet is a big piece that doesn't hog the spotlight.
What makes this room for me: all the pattern. If you removed all the pillows, rug, and blankets from here, everything would be a very luxe beige linen/cotton. I love all the pattern because it's varied in scale and has different textures, but it's neutral or 1-2 color palettes, so easy to mix and swap out.
The thing I really love about this house is that it's both elegant and comfortable. I like the whole boho-chic, West-Coast, California vibe, but in all the photos that come through my Instagram feed, this style usually feels like I'm supposed to be sitting on kilim ottomans on the floor drinking kombucha (note: there is a kilim ottoman in this photo but it is clearly to put your feet up). This feels like a grownup house with beautiful, but not precious or pretentious things. It made me remember a couple of other houses that I'd seen in blogs with this vibe, so I went back and made a West Coast Spanish Revival Dream House Pinterest board (and started searching for houses) so that I'd be ready with some design ideas when the time comes.
