Biking around Bainbridge Island
I've always wanted to bike onto a ferry. You get the best of both worlds: the flexibility of having transport wherever the ferry goes, combined with freedom of not needing a reservation or waiting in a stressful line to make sure you get on. Bikes go to the front of the line on Washington State ferries. It's glorious. So Paulo and I biked from Wallingford down to the ferry terminal, biked right onto the ferry to Bainbridge Island, and then spent a wonderful evening exploring Bainbridge.
After arriving in Bainbridge, we biked over to Bruciato, where we had an amazing anchovy pizza (adventure!) and a couple beers. We walked around downtown, checking out some cool shops, including the great Salt House Mercantile. From there, it was a four mile bike road over to Pritchard Park, where we saw sweeping vistas of Seattle and met some nice fellow Seattleites. We then followed Rockaway Beach Road checking out dream houses, arriving at Blakely Harbor Park in about two miles. It was starting to get dusky at this point, so we looped back around to the ferry terminal, about five miles away.
Overall, it was a great day! 21 miles of biking, good food, great views, and bikes on ferries! We'll definitely be back to Bainbridge Island -- we barely touched the surface.
